Another Loss...

I am so sad to report we lost two more chickens on Sunday.  When I let them out to range, they were all there.  When I went to put them up that night, 2 were missing.  I worried that something had gotten them, but hoping they had just roosted somewhere I shut them all up and waited until daylight.  I found Ida Mae's feathers scattered on the hill in our barn lot, and a tuft of Foghorn Leghorn's white feathers up by my horse trailer.  A fox had attacked in broad daylight.  RIP Ida Mae and Foghorn Leghorn.  You will be missed.

Ida Mae (momma hen above) was my favorite and was such a wonderful momma.  I would hold her and she'd purr.

Foghorn Leg horn (above, small white hen) was our only white egg layer.  She was a chicken brain, but sweet.

We'll miss you girls.

Funny Looking

I was up at my mom and dad's for a long weekend this past week.  I trusted Shannon with the care of the animals while away.  He is fully capable, but (no offense, Shannon!) he just doesn't care for my critters like I do.  As soon as I got the girls settled in the house, I booked it out to the barn.  The barn is one of my favorite places on this planet, and I checked on Mable, Ida Mae, and the Hen Twins (Fannie and Barry) to make sure they were comfortable.  Their water was empty, so I refilled it, and then I loved on them and gave them some scratch.  The other chickens had bunked down for the night because the wind was whipping, and they were cold.  I fed the horses, loved on them, and went searching for some eggs.  Shannon doesn't know where they hid them...but I do!  I found one in Mable's stall, 16 in a little nest near our wood pile in the barn aisle, 2 in the coop, and 14 in the hay.  I love collecting eggs.  I also love to see how unusual they are, and how oddly shaped they can be.  Look at this cone-head egg.  I wonder if the studies are correct and this would be a boy egg...hmmmm...

Speaking of weird looking eggs...here are mine.  Pyper loves to dress up.  We were getting ready to go out to dinner for my mother in law's birthday.  Hope you are all staying warm in this COLD weather!!!

A Hairy Day...

Raegan FINALLY has enough hair to have it cut!  It was getting a bit shaggy, so I took the girls over to the salon and Raegan had her first hair cut!  Pyper had a trim, too.

She was telling Nicole the look she wanted...

 A lollipop was requested...

A cute bob on an adorable little 17th month old.  Afterwards, we went to Wal-Mart to spend the 2 gift cards Aunt Nita sent the girls for Valentine's Day.  Pyper chose a beauty salon kit, complete with a curling iron, flat iron, lipstick, brush, and a "real" blow dryer.  She also chose an Ariel Barbie.  Then Raegan chose a Barbie phone and a Princess Tiana Barbie.  Girls will be girls.  *sigh*
